February at the Summit: Harvest, Markets, and High Country Sunshine

There is no month quite like February in the King Valley. It’s the height of Vintage, where the air smells of crushed grapes, the morning mist clings to the valley floor just a little longer, and the golden hour at our lookouts is nothing short of spectacular.

At 652 metres, we are lucky to be a few degrees cooler than the valley floor, making Elevation652 the perfect “cool-climate” base for exploring the region’s peak summer energy. Whether you are a foodie, an athlete, or a lover of local crafts, here is what’s happening in our backyard this month.

Wine & Wellness

Signature Events

February 2026 brings some truly unique experiences to the valley. If you’re staying with us, we highly recommend checking these out:

Vineyards Twilight (Feb 21st): Imagine a half marathon, 10k, or 5k run that weaves through the picturesque rows of Brown Brothers Winery under a golden twilight sky. Not a runner? No problem. The “Finish Line Festival” is the real highlight, featuring food trucks, live bands, and a well-earned glass of wine on the lawn.

A Taste of the Senses (Feb 21st): Hosted by Red Feet Wines, this is a groundbreaking sensory journey. It’s a dedicated wine-tasting experience designed specifically for the vision-impaired (though open to all), focusing on tactile exploration—think feeling the grape skins and touching the barrels while enjoying matched small plates.

Local Flavours

The Market Trail

February is peak harvest season, and our local markets are overflowing with summer produce. It’s the perfect time to stock up for a sunset picnic at the lookout.

Moyhu Lions Country Market (Feb 21st): Just down the hill in Moyhu. This is a classic country market—perfect for finding local preserves, plants, and handmade treasures between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Myrtleford Farmers Market (Feb 28th): Held at the Piazza in Myrtleford, this accredited market is the place to meet the “heroes” of our regional food system. Look for heirloom beetroots, fresh microgreens, and the famous local lemon slice.

Benalla Lakeside Craft & Farmers Market (Feb 28th): A beautiful morning out by the lake. Connect with local farmers and artisans and pick up some farm-fresh fruit to enjoy back at your retreat.

Swimming Holes & Waterfalls

Cooling Off

When the February sun is high, the locals head for the water.

Lake William Hovell: A 20-minute drive from the base of our mountain. It’s the perfect spot for a swim, a kayak, or a quiet picnic under the trees in the Alpine National Park.

Paradise Falls: Only 40 minutes from the farm, these falls are a cool, shaded sanctuary. Even in the heat of summer, the mist from the 31-metre drop is incredibly refreshing.

Back on the farm, the 1,500 acres are thriving

The Harvest Vibes: You’ll see the vintage hustle everywhere you go. It’s a great time to visit cellar doors like Dal Zotto or Pizzini to feel the energy of the grape pickers in action.

The Animals: Our Shetland donkeys and Pygmy goats love the longer days—they’ll likely be waiting at the fence for a morning hello.

The Sunset Ritual: In February, the sunsets are particularly vibrant. Our Sunset Lookout swing chairs are the best seats in the house for watching the day melt into the hills.
